Since, then you have been raised w/ Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on the things above, not on earthly things. For you died (carnal man) and your life is is now hidden w/ Christ in God. When Christ appears, who is our life, then you will also appear w/ him in glory. Col. 3: 1-4
*We are to set our minds -have a mind set of the things of God not the things of this world. For the "old man"; our old ways of thinking were reckoned dead when we were saved/born again. We are to put away worldly negative thoughts, worry, fear and replace them w/ thoughts on the things that are above. The accomplishments of Jesus Christ.
Beware lest any man spoil you (take you captive) through philosophy and vain deceit (hollow, empty deceptive philosophies) after the traditions of man, after the ways of this world, rather than the ways of Christ. ~Col.1:8
Jer 2:13 For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, [and] hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.
*We hew out our own cisterns. A cistern is a whole in the ground it can be used to hold water. The thing is these cisterns are broken and all the water leaks out and just when you are really thirsty you go to get some water and there is nothing there because your cistern has leaked it all away. Walk in the spirit and you will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh~Galations 5:16
When our cisterns are based on a false assumption it is a broken cistern. See if you build on a false assumption then as you build upon that it all comes crashing down because the base is based on an error. It’s too bad that we can't get a 404 message when we make an incorrect conclusion but God expects us to be workmen and work women when it comes to his word.
Now they not only hew these cisterns out but they have forsaken the fountain of living waters. A fountain has a limitless supply of water so no matter when you go to get the drink the water is there for you. This is like God because he is always there if you need something.
Walk in the spirit and you will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh~Galations 5:16
